USA President Joe Biden admits Democrats forced him out of the presidential race

U.S.A President Joe Biden has now spoken out about his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

The 81-year-old stunned the globe when he said in a letter uploaded to his X account that he would not seek re-election for a second term and would instead endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to run against Donald Trump.

It followed weeks of mounting public pressure from leading Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, to withdraw out of the race, amid worries about his age and mental fitness following the catastrophic debate on June 27.

Biden gave his first interview to CBS News’ Bob Costa on Sunday, August 11, since deciding not to run for re-election.

During the conversation, Biden stated that pressure from other Democrats influenced his choice.

The 81-year-old also mentioned former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, with the two having not communicated in some time.

“Look, polls we had showed it was a neck-and-neck race, it would have been down to the wire,” according to him.

“Several of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate believed that I was going to hurt them in the elections. And I was concerned that if I continued in the race, it would be the focus, and you’d be asking me about why Nancy Pelosi said what she did, and I thought it’d be a great diversion,” he said.

“Number two, when I ran the first time, I envisioned myself as a transition president. I can’t even tell you how old I am; it’s difficult for me to explain, and, uh, but things moved so rapidly that it didn’t happen.

And the combination was that I thought it was the most important issue for me, which it still is, not a joke, to protect our democracy.

“But I thought it was important because although I, it’s a great honour being President, I think I have an obligation to the country to do what I, the most important thing you can do, and that is we must, we must, we must defeat Trump.”

Biden, who has kept a quiet profile since stepping out, also hinted during the CBS interview that there may not be a peaceful transition of power in January 2025.

“If Trump wins, I’m not confident at all,” he admitted, before reversing himself.

“If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all. He means what he says, and we don’t take him seriously. He means it when he says that if we lose, there will be a slaughter, and the election will be stolen. Look at what they’re doing now in the local electoral districts where votes are counted. Putting individuals in states where the votes will be counted, correct? “You can’t love your country just because you win.”

Biden asserted that Trump, who nearly escaped an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, was “a genuine danger to American security”.

“Mark my words, if he wins … watch what happens,” he told the crowd.
