Mr. P (Peter Okoye) writes an open letter to his twin brother, Rude Boy (Paul Okoye).
Mr. P(Peter Okoye) of P-SQUARE pens down an open letter to his twin brother, RudeBoy(Paul Okoye) – “What do you gain from constantly belittling my efforts all the time?”
Peter Okoye:
My dearest brother Paul,
As I have stated multiple times, I am not in competition with you or anyone else. However, witnessing you give multiple interviews in which you consistently denigrate my efforts in the group that we both founded and established together speaks loudly. In recent interviews, you claimed that you composed and sung 99% of all P-SQUARE songs, and you discredited me by claiming that our collaboration with TI, “EjeaJo,” which I wrote, was a disaster. You went so far as to use YouTube views to defame me once more.
You never mentioned other songs like “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” “Personally,” “Roll It,” “Temptation,” “Alingo,” “More than a Friend,” “Shekini,” “Say Your Love,” “Gimme Dat,” “Senorita,” “IGBEdu,” and a few more. Were these songs considered flops as well?
Every time I spoke about P-SQUARE in an interview, I used “we” and “us” because I saw us as a team. But every time you talk, it’s always “I” and “me,” even when I’m standing right next to you. It’s as if I’ve never existed.
My brother, none of us is the world’s most skilled artist, yet you fail to recognize that God gave us this talent and even provided us another chance to excel following our previous breakup. Instead, you chose to turn the most awarded and decorated music group in Africa into a laughingstock again.
One thing you should know is that fans did not fall in love with P-SQUARE because of who sung or danced the most. What set us apart was the magic that resulted from our combined efforts – us two! P-SQUARE was a powerhouse, and fans fell in love with the group due of its distinctiveness and cohesiveness. We both have talent, no doubt, and I’ve often complimented you on your songwriting abilities during our interviews. I’ve also applauded anybody who has ever written a song for us, including myself as Mr. P. But instead of expressing gratitude for my good words, you appear to find joy in rubbing it in my face, forgetting that it is by God’s favor that we have come this far.
Instead of working with me to take back our top status in the music business, you teamed up with Jude to take the top slot in the P-SQUARE group, constantly seeking out ways to make fun of and marginalize me.
You constantly make the claim that you are P-SQUARE’s manager, promoter, band, choreographer, songwriter, composer, producer, singer, and backup vocalist. In reality, you are all of these things. P-SQUARE is written and completed by you! Rather than the 99% you assert, I demolish you entirely.
I’m sorry for not getting back to you when you claimed in a tweet in April 2015 that you composed and performed every song by P-SQUARE. As urged by family and friends, I chose not to respond to these false charges in order to maintain peace, and I am now paying a heavy price for it.
So allow me to ask you, my brother: Is Mr. P or Rudeboy currently more popular and successful than P-SQUARE? Are we, like P-SQUARE, selling out arenas and stadiums on an individual basis? Are our tracks as solo artists reaching the top of the global music charts?
Do we command crowds and perform for large audiences in the same way as P-SQUARE?
I frequently ask myself, “What do you really stand to gain by continuously treating me with disrespect and denigration?” You have shown disdain for my spouse, my family, my abilities, my beliefs, and even Jude when it was obvious he was attempting to subjugate me. It seems like you are trying even harder now to make the fans think I’m jealous of you in an attempt to turn them against me.
You have been making every effort to make the fans despise me, but what happens? They will hate us both because we have let them down and let them down, not because they will never hate me.
Hopefully, you’re content now. I really want the best for you, my friend! I can understand those who have been fed the incorrect narrative for a long time if they come to my page to leave harsh comments and believe these lies and false narratives. Please let me concentrate and work quietly on my music.
Regarding the EFCC issue, I will address it before the end of today. Stay tuned! Peace
