German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer retires from international football.

Manuel Neuer, one of the best goalkeepers in history, has announced his retirement from international football after guiding the German national team to unprecedented glory. “Today signals the end of my career with the national team. “It fills me with pride and gratitude to have played alongside all of my teammates and captained the national team for over seven years,” Neuer said in an Instagram video. “We have had numerous highs and lows. The FC Bayern goalkeeper highlighted the team’s triumph over Argentina at the Maracanã Stadium, which resulted in their title as world champions.

“I want to thank everyone who was a part of my journey, as well as you, the fans. You’ve always been supportive of me. I enjoyed wearing the German national team jersey.

Neuer made his German national team debut on June 2, 2009, in a 7-2 friendly victory over the United Arab Emirates. He led the team between 2016 and 2023. The goalie competed in four World Cups and four European Championships. In 2014, he won the World Cup with Germany in Brazil and received the Golden Glove as the tournament’s best goalkeeper.

In 2020, Neuer was named national player of the year by fans. With 124 caps, he is the German national team’s all-time leading goalkeeper.
